Neil Sutherland and his integrated MAKAR workshop practice and studio (Scots for maker-poet) develop and pre-fabricate building systems for local Scottish timbers demonstrating a model of regional building culture which is beginning to be replicated by others in the country.

Søren Linhart, Seiler-Linhart Arkitekten (Switzerland) have completed a series of projects which highlight Swiss wood and regional provenance, including several for timber company, Küng Holzbau, and have helped the canton become leaders in the development of Swiss Wood, a national initiative to develop the use of regional forests for buildings.

Polly and Tom Bedford, UK Hardwoods and Robin Nicholson, Buckland Timber – each examples of the emerging network of regional timber companies, highlighting materials developed from native species, including hardwood flooring and external cladding and indigenous glulam. Together they collaborated on UK Hardwood’s new storage warehouse, built from diseased North Devon larch – including its glulam beams – and Douglas Fir.
